VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 18th, 2020 —PrecisionOS Technology, developers of the medical-grade virtual reality™ learning platform that advances surgical readiness, announced today the launch of a new multiplayer feature. The enhancement grants multiple users in different locations simultaneous access to the same learning module.
The PrecisionOS platform utilizes the Oculus Quest, which makes it completely portable and cost effective to be used anywhere in the world. This feature adds another significant advantage to the PrecisionOS platform, which has already proven to be more beneficial in efficiency and effectiveness with learning over traditional training methods as published in the JBJS Am, the leading orthopedic surgical journal
“Multiplayer is literally and figuratively adding another dimension to our training platform, enabling the type of collaboration and knowledge-share that’s typically only found in a clinical setting,” said Dr. Danny Goel, a practicing orthopedic shoulder surgeon and Chief Executive Officer, PrecisionOS. “Through technology, we’re now able to assemble multidisciplinary teams for training without anyone having to travel.”
Recently, PrecisionOS trained more than 300 medical device sales representatives using virtual reality in just 30 minutes. With multiplayer, Dr. Goel said he envisions surgeons remotely collaborating with other surgeons, trainees and key operating room personnel including device reps.
The new feature builds on the notion of double-loop learning, an educational concept grounded in search, exploration and decision-making with the “why” in mind. Unlike single-loop learning methods like lectures or videos via tablet, the PrecisionOS module is interactive and encourages the user to delve deeper into an ultra-realistic simulation while permitting failure.
